Creating Your Ideal Schedule

Organizing your schedule to fit in all the things can seem like a far-fetched idea. If you can relate to this picture then you follow me.

But I’m going to show you exactly how you can balance each area of your life, stay sane, survive and be happy.

1. First make a list of your top priorities.

This can be anything. Set a timer for 5 minutes and just start writing about everything you currently do or want to start doing that is a top priority item to you.

2. Then create your schedule.

Use either a paper schedule, create one in excel or buy a pretty planner.

This is necessary for writing out what you will be doing, and when. Write in each day of your planner the hours of the day starting from the time you wake up each day to the time you go to sleep.

It will look like this:

6AM-

7AM-

8AM-

9 AM-

etc.

3. First write everything into your week that consists of personal and family time.

This is important because if you don’t schedule these first they won’t happen. Or they will get pushed to the back when often times this is most peoples top priority items.

Personal time will include everything from, if you spend quiet time in the morning with yourself, to your meal times, to exercise, grocery shopping, meal planning/prepping, time to write out your schedule for the following week, and self care routines you already have in place like massages, etc.

Family time will be things like dinner together, family night if you have one, or time each night just for your family where nothing else will be scheduled.

4. Next put in all appointments and work times.

These include doctors appointments, school for your kids, work hours, kid’s activities for the week, basically all your must do appointments for the week.

5. Next put in any other things you do each week.

This is things like housekeeping, paying bills, scheduling appointments, etc.

6. Last look at the white space you still have available.

Feel free to put in any things from your top priority list you made earlier.

Or if you don’t have any white space take a look at your schedule and your top priority list and see if they match up. If you have things on your schedule that aren’t top priority items now would be the time to mark them off.

Or maybe you have a huge list of top priority items and realize you can’t do them all. I’ve been there. This means you need to reevaluate and look at things that no longer need to be top priorities during this season in your life. It doesn’t mean they can’t be top priorities later in life, just right now they may not be as important in the season you are in.

Putting a schedule like this together each week frees up so much space in your schedule and helps you to truly maximize the time you have available. You will be much more organized and productive. And not having time will never be an excuse again.

Here are a few tips I want to leave you with.

1. Don’t be afraid to say “No”, you can‘t say “Yes” to everything.

2. Prioritize yourself, this includes your health.

3. Seek help when you need it, especially when you have little ones.

4. Leave white space. You don’t want a schedule with no white space and become so overwhelmed with everything you are doing.

5. Let your schedule free you up instead of binding you.
