I’ve been so consumed with things in my life lately.
All good things, but the enemy loves to have us in this place…consumed, overwhelmed, distracted, drowning in life’s day to days.
So instead of staying in this place I’m choosing to be present in every moment, every moment I have been blessed with, every moment that has been ordained for me to walk in each day, every moment that has been planned for me before I even took a breath.
Divine moments, divine appointments, from a divine God.
While I’m running choosing to only take in my surroundings. When I’m playing with Axel (my almost 2 year old…excuse me while I go cry in disbelief!), only taking in that moment with him. During work hours, being fully present and engaged for my clients. While I’m folding laundry, not letting my mind wander to the next task to check off the list.
Those around us need us to be present for them. Don’t let good distractions distract you from what matters, from what has been entrusted to you, from what God has called you to, from the divine moments and appointments he has set before you each day.
How Can You Practice Living in the Moment?
1. Steward Your Time
Only do tasks during designated times you’ve set for those tasks. Read my blog post here on how to set up a schedule to make the most of each day and make time for things you thought you didn’t have time for before.
2. Realize Your Priorities
What truly needs your attention during this season in your life? Figure out your top priorities and let everything else go.
Don’t have as tidy of a home during this season? Weeds poking up from your driveway? No time for the weekly Netflix binge night?
Let the things that truly don’t matter go and prioritize those things that do matter. I’ve had to spend a lot of time in prayer to figure out my top priorities. You may need to do the same.
3. Set Boundaries
Let yourself have boundaries around when you will work, when you will answer phone calls, when you will be available for others, when you will play with kiddos, when you will schedule date nights.
Being available is important, but I’ve had to realize I can’t be available 24 hours a day. My son needs me, my husband needs me, my Heavenly Father wants time with me. I can’t let those things go to take care of others.
Set boundaries where they need set and again prioritize the most important things.
For me that looks like only working and responding to clients during work hours. Setting time aside weekly for family time. Not answering calls or texts during work hours. Not having my phone on me during family time.
4. Take In Surroundings
We’ve been blessed with a beautiful life! Take it in and enjoy every moment. Don’t think “next year I will slow down”…trust me, as I’m sure you’ve realized by now too, that magical slow “next year” never comes.
Slow down, take it in, enjoy small pockets of time throughout your day, taking in the beauty that surrounds you.
5. Realign Your Focus
Choose to only focus on the person before you, task you are doing at that moment, and nothing else. Worry about other tasks and to-do’s later in the day during those times you’ve scheduled for those to-do’s.
Remember your ultimate purpose in life…To love God, be loved by God, and pour that love on others!
Nothing else matters in the end. Don’t get so caught up in life’s daily tasks that you forget what you are actually here for.
6. Carve Out Time For You
This is huge! If you aren’t taking care of yourself the pressure of daily life will overtake you.
Take some quiet time in the morning to do what you need to prepare yourself for the day.
If not in the morning do it in the evening, or during your lunch break. However that looks for you.
For me it means getting up 2 hours before my son and having my bible time + time with the Lord, and getting in my workout + shower before my day even begins! This is so refreshing and energizing for me.
We’ve been given a beautiful life to live! Let’s choose to enjoy it, be present, and not get distracted by good things.
