“So that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” Colossians 1:10-12
Have you ever recognized someone’s voice before even seeing them, or heard someone talk about what someone you know very well said and think ‘No they couldn’t have possibly said that, that doesn’t sound like them’!
What about the voice of your Father? Do you know his voice like you know all the voices of the loved ones in your life?
I know I struggle with this which is why this is my word for 2019. For the first time in 3 years I didn’t write any new years resolutions. I always loved writing my list of resolutions, there would be about 20 different things relating to fitness, finances, relationships, spiritual growth and personal growth. But this year, for the first time, I have no desire to write anything, almost as if God is telling me “this is what I want you to focus on”!
I want to be so confident in my Father’s voice that when any lie, doubt or worry comes from the enemy I will be able to say ‘No that’s not the voice of my Father, he doesn’t sound like that’! Any lie about my identity and who I am created to be, any doubt about where God has placed me right now, any worry about what is happening right now or will happen tomorrow.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
Hand in hand with the voice of the Father is the voice of the Spirit. I’ve heard on a podcast recently that the Holy Spirit is our greatest helper in day-to-day life and our best friend. She went on to say she calls on the Holy Spirit multiple times throughout the day.
I have some best friends and then my husband who I would consider my best best friend (if that’s a thing). Now I tell my husband EVERYTHING!! I’ve always been a talker but now that I’m home with my 1 year old all day I have even more to say when my husband comes home from work…any other stay at home moms know what I mean? Adult interaction after all day with a child will cause you to talk uncontrollably!
I want to live in a way that the Holy Spirit is my best best BEST friend! One who I tell EVERYTHING too and who I call on for absolutely EVERYTHING throughout my day! I need to get out of bed at 6am before my little one wakes up to do my bible reading…help Holy Spirit, I need to step back and think about a situation before I respond the wrong way…help Holy Spirit, I need wisdom about a big decision I need to make…help Holy Spirit, I have to change an explosive diaper…seriously HELP Holy Spirit!
“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25
So 2019 will be a year of listening for and learning my Father’s voice & total reliance on the Holy Spirit! I can tell it will be an incredible year!!
